As mentioned in our previous blog post, there have been a number of important changes to the Innovator Founder route. With this change, the Start-up route was closed and, as of 13 April 2023, it was replaced by the Innovator Founder route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today we would like to give you detailed information about the Innovator Founder route. The Innovator Founder route is for people who want to set up a business in the United Kingdom based on an innovative, viable and scalable business idea that they have generated or to which they have significantly contributed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To consider this route, you must first have a business idea. Your business idea must be new, innovative, viable (that is, an idea with growth potential) and scalable (your business idea must have evidence of planning that includes job creation and growth into national and international markets). You must also document that you have B2-level English from an approved test centre (e.g. IELTS) or that you have graduated with a bachelor\u2019s degree or higher from an institution that taught in English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the application, this business idea must be assessed and endorsed by one of the authorised bodies in the United Kingdom designated by the government (one of the Endorsing Bodies). The business plan, in which the business idea is explained in detail, is an important part of this endorsement process. The business plan explaining your business idea must be up to date, compliant with the requirements, detailed and original.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Can You Do?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With this visa, you can set up one or more businesses and work for your business (for example, you can employ yourself as a director).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can also work outside your business as long as it is \u2018skilled work\u2019 (for example, you can work in a job on the Skilled Worker list).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under this visa, provided you meet all the necessary requirements, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indefinite Leave to Remain Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To obtain Indefinite Leave to Remain through the Innovator Founder route, there are first the requirements that every applicant must meet regardless of visa type. In addition, specifically for the Innovator Founder route, at least two of the following requirements must have been met:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • at least \u00a350,000 has been invested into the business and actively spent furthering your business,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the number of the business\u2019s customers has at least doubled within the last three years and is currently higher than the mean number of customers of other UK businesses offering comparable main products or services,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the business has created the equivalent of at least 5 full-time jobs for settled workers, with an average salary of at least \u00a325,000 a year,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the business has generated an annual gross revenue of at least \u00a31 million in the last full year covered by its accounts,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the business has generated an annual gross revenue of at least \u00a3500,000 in the last year covered by its accounts, with at least \u00a3100,000 of this from exporting overseas,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the business is engaged in significant research and development activity and has applied for intellectual property protection in the UK,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the business has created the equivalent of at least 10 full-time jobs for settled workers, with no average salary requirement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
