The United Kingdom offers fashion designers an international career opportunity! The Global Talent visa allows designers who have exceptional talent in fashion, or who have the potential to become leaders in the future, to work in the UK and prove themselves. Under this visa, the British Fashion Council (BFC) assesses and endorses applications.
Who Can Apply?
Are you a leading or promising designer in the fashion sector? If you have international recognition in fashion, or the potential to become a leader in the sector, you can apply for the Global Talent visa.
The BFC supports individuals who have a design-led leadership role in the fashion industry. There is no cap on applications for the visa, and applications are assessed on a continuous basis.
Applicants must fall into one of the Exceptional Talent or Exceptional Promise categories.
Requirements for the Application
To apply for the Global Talent visa, you must meet the following requirements:
✅ Be aged 18 or over
✅ Make an application endorsed by the British Fashion Council (BFC), or hold a prize included in the Prestigious Prizes list
✅ Not fall for refusal under any of the grounds in the Immigration Rules

British Fashion Council (BFC) Endorsement Criteria
To be endorsed by the BFC, the applicant must be active in the fashion sector and must have worked professionally in the fashion design sector within the last 5 years.
✅ For Exceptional Talent applications: the applicant’s fashion designs must have been sold, exhibited or recognised internationally, and the applicant must have a strong track record in at least 2 different countries.
✅ For Exceptional Promise applications: the applicant must have an emerging career history in fashion design and be recognised in at least 1 country.
Documents Required for the Application
The following documents must be submitted for the BFC endorsement process:
📩 3 Letters of Recommendation: these must be obtained from nationally or internationally recognised fashion organisations.
📂 10 Pieces of Evidence: documents proving the applicant’s international achievements, awards, catwalk show participation, sales and media recognition.
📄 Professional CV: a CV detailing the fashion designer’s career history, achievements and connections with the sector.
Evidence Required for the Exceptional Talent Category
The applicant must meet at least two of the following criteria:
🏆 Awards & Nominations: being nominated for or winning international fashion awards, or making a significant contribution to them.
📰 Media Recognition: being recognised by independent fashion critics or publications in at least 2 countries.
👠 Catwalk Shows & Exhibitions: taking part in at least 2 internationally recognised catwalk shows, exhibitions or presentations in the fashion world.
🛍️ International Sales: offering designs for sale through luxury retailers, the applicant’s own store or an e-commerce platform.
Evidence Required for the Exceptional Promise Category
The applicant must meet at least two of the following criteria:
📰 Media Recognition: having national or international media recognition, with at least 2 different examples.
🎗️ Support & Sponsorship: receiving sponsorship from the British Fashion Council, Fashion East, Sarabande Foundation, Centre of Fashion Enterprise or a similar organisation.
🛍️ Orders: receiving at least 1 order from a luxury fashion retailer or boutique.
🎓 Sector Recognition: having a graduate collection that has been highlighted by renowned fashion designers, brands or Graduate Fashion Week.
How Long Does the BFC Endorsement Process Take?
The British Fashion Council completes the endorsement process usually within 6–8 weeks.
After receiving endorsement, the visa application must be made within 3 months.
Visa Application and Process
After receiving BFC endorsement, you need to apply for the Global Talent visa within 3 months.
The application can be made from the UK or from abroad.

📌 It can be requested for between 1 and 5 years.
📌 The length of the application may affect the healthcare surcharge payable.
📌 There is no English language or financial maintenance requirement in this visa category.
